DISCOVERY Project to Bolster Support for ICT Research and Innovation

Posted February 23rd, 2016 by Jonathan Hung
DISCOVERY is an international cooperation project co-funded by Horizon 2020 EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation that was launched on January 1 2016. Over the next 2 years the project will implement an interactive work plan to support dialogues between Europe and North America (U.S. and Canada) and to foster cooperation in ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Research & Innovation.

One of the main results of the DISCOVERY project will be the creation of the Transatlantic ICT Forum designed as a mechanism to promote policy debate and provide opinions and recommendations for cooperation between Europe and North America. Under the umbrella of the Transatlantic ICT Forum, three Working Groups have been established to work on key issues for ICT cooperation: funding mechanisms, ICT policy and regulations, and cybersecurity.

DISCOVERY will identify ICT priorities of common interest for EU-North America cooperation and support innovation partnerships for collaboration in ICT R&I projects, by engaging with the industry and researchers from both sides of the Atlantic. Furthermore, the project will organize the ICT Discovery Lab and capacity-building workshops, a cycle of interactive events to exchange experiences and good practices, share ideas and accelerate innovation around technologies and applications for ICT cooperation.

The DISCOVERY project brings together a multidisciplinary team of leading professionals and prominent organizations from Europe, the U.,S. and Canada. Led by INMARK Europa (Spain), project partners are the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain), Waterford Institute of Technology (Ireland), NordForsk (Norway), Hewlett Packard (Italy), Georgia Tech Research Corporation (U.S.), European American Chamber of Commerce – New Jersey (U.S.), OCAD University (Canada), and NSERC Strategic Network for Smart Applications on Virtual Infrastructures – SAVI (Canada).
